Shelf Actualization (A February Trip Recap)

Marek on Gym Arete Direct (Adam) Nowadays, good climbing trips require electrolyte infused hard seltzers, dive bars with Dave Dangle, and good weather. Great climbing trips require some Rocky Mountain oysters, meeting the voice of the Enormocast, and secret blue point competitions... Saturday : Graham, Adam, and I ambitiously planned to send all of our projects on Day 1. Ah, Shelf, the place where great expectations go to die--although we did start strong! First stop: the Gym, where we immediately hopped on the  Gym Arete , and only to hear the unmistakable voice of the Enormocast (Chris Kalous) turn the corner behind us! Awesome guy. In the company of such esteemed greatness, we all sent: Graham and Adam, the Gym Arete; myself, the  direct start. Next stop: Spiney Ridge, to settle a score with  Hurricane . Part II: An Afternoon in Paklenica

Note: I've recently returned from an amazing trip to Slovenia and Croatia. This next series of posts (if I ever finish them) will describe some of the highlights, primarily with a climbing focus. Ok, you got me. It's almost 100% about climbing. Here's part two, An Afternoon in Paklenica. Route Summary (out of four stars): Vaginalna Manipulacija,  6a+ (20m): ★ Gerovit,  6c+/7a (14m) :  ★★★ (Awesome short route. Probably a fantastic warm-up for its neighbors) Butter Keks,  5c (18m): ★ (I don't remember this route, but know I climbed it) Crni Gad , 6b (20m):    ★★★★ (So good. Oh, so good). It's 1 pm, Martin and I are baking in the sun, and we haven't matched any of guidebook topos with walls. Well, it's been a while, as an astute reader noted. Since my last entry, healthcare reform passed (good?), the Winter Olympics happened (cool?), I passed non-linear controls (no idea how this happened), the Gulf of Mexico turned into the world's largest oilfield (and it seems like we're doing nothing about it), the Nuggets and Avalanche got eliminated in the first round (glad the Avs made the playoffs, disappointed the Nuggets didn't do better), I discovered K'Naan ( If Rap Gets Jealous ) the Shins & Arcarde Fire for the first time (loving Funeral & Chutes Too Narrow + New Slang , jury's out on Neon Bible , Oh, Inverted World, & Wincing the Night Away ) Iron Man II came out (haven't seen it (or Avatar )), the iPad came out (awesome, except for the whole proprietary aspect), the Chilean Earthquake probably shifted the Earth's axis & shortened it's days (thank you Wikipedia), Eyjafjallajokull erupted (still no idea how to pronounce it
